This past September my wife and I had the pleasure of visiting the beautiful and wonderful city of Venice, Italy. We stayed at the lavish Hotel Danieli who were kind enough to upgrade us to an incredible room overlooking the Venetian lagoon and Riva degli Schiavoni right next to Piazza San Marco.
Very, very early in the morning as I stood on our balcony, before the crowds of tourists began their daily adventures, I witnessed this fascinating scene of a soon to be married couple standing on the bridge. The golden light on the pavement and fading deep blues and purples enveloped these three figures. As I watched the groom staring out at the lagoon the soon to be bride watched as a dark and handsome stranger descended the steps of the bridge walking away.
I certainly can not know what thoughts may have gone through her head in that instant but I knew I had to paint the scene! "Second Thoughts ?" - NOT Second Thoughts. I think almost everyone has some of those moments around their marriage. Those quick fleeting questions that hopefully quickly fade and the heart and mind returns to joy and confidence in the path they have chosen to follow.
